Cordell Hull Birthplace 2010 Schedule of Events

March 13 & 27 and April 10, 2010 - Spring Wildflower Hikes
It is that special time of year again! To appreciate and celebrate this beautiful season, the staff at Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park will be leading wildflower hikes to Bunkum Cave on Saturdays this spring. Participants of these wildflower hikes can expect to discover wildflowers such as Spring Beauty, Hepatica, Cut-Leaf-Toothwort, Foam Flower, May Apple, and many more. Hikers should expect not only to see such flowers but also learn about their unique personalities, history, and possible food and medicinal uses. Everyone is invited to come on down to the park to learn more about our native plants and “enjoy our good nature.”

Walks are scheduled for the following Saturdays: March 13th, March 27th, and April 10th. The time for the programs will be 10AM-12PM and we will meet at the Bunkum Cave Trailhead parking lot. Program length will be approximately 2 hours and cover about 2 miles. The wildflower walk will be a moderate hike with rolling hills so it is advised that you wear sturdy shoes and bring a bottle of water and a wildflower field guide if you like.
Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park is located at 1300 Cordell Hull Memorial Drive. Turn at the Shell station on Hwy 111 in Byrdstown and travel approximately 1.5 miles down Hwy 325 to reach the park. The entrance to the trailhead parking lot will be on your left. For more information please call the park at 931-864-3247. We hope to see you there! Bad weather will cancel the program, so please call to confirm if the weather is questionable.
